Bibi the Problem Solver
That a 3 year old must solve South Africa's problems for them. Eish. Hope somebody in our parliament reads this sometime, they might learn something.
First some background:
On 20 June 2007, Mamelodi, a black township outside Pretoria, exploded into violence because the people got fed up with all the promises made by the government, but no deliveries. They demonstrated over housing shortages and other service delivery problems. The demonstrations turned ugly and the crowd of protestors quickly became an angry mob who started stoning cars and buses and trains and setting fire to some as well as looting bread trucks and shops.
Eventually the police resorted to violence to regain control and after arresting dozens, started firing rubber bullets to break up the mob. Dozens were injured.
The Bibi Solution:
"We were travelling home from school that afternoon when Dylan asked me how my day was at work. I proceeded to tell him what kept me busy and added that I had to make Danpa (grandpa) tea as Rose wasn't there as a result of the violence and trains being burnt in Mamelodi. The conversation went something like this -
Dylan: "Mommy, who are the people burning the trains?"
Mommy: "Bad people, because they are burning trains and causing chaos."
Dylan: " Why are the bad people burning the trains?"
Mommy: "Because they are cross with the government, they say that the government isn't listening to their request for more service, houses and money."
Dylan: "Mommy, why don't they just go to the bank?"
I just couldn't respond to this as I thought it was ultra cute, I just laughed so much and found his innocence extremely precious and of course his way of rectifying the problem."
All my love, Mommy
